Using a Mobile Phone (Smartphone / iPhone)

Mobile phones have become an essential part of modern life, offering convenience, connectivity, and a range of features that enhance daily activities. They allow instant communication through calls, messages, and video chats, keeping us connected to friends, family, and colleagues no matter where we are.

Things you could learn include:

  • Setting up your phone, out of the box
  • Making calls, sending text messages and taking photos with your phone
  • Downloading and using 'apps'
  • Using the internet on your phone eg. for shopping, banking or even dating!
  • Using WhatsApp or Email to stay in touch with friends and family
  • Listening to music, watching videos or playing games
  • Anything else, just ask!

Using a Tablet

Tablets offer a larger screen compared to smartphones, which enhances the experience of reading, watching videos, or browsing the web, while still being more portable than a laptop.

Things you could learn include:

  • Setting up your tablet, out of the box
  • Downloading and using 'apps' on the tablet
  • Taking photos or videos with your tablet

  • Anything else, just ask!

Using a Desktop or Laptop Computer

In today’s fast-paced and technology-driven world, having general computer skills empowers you to connect with others, access information, and manage your daily life more effectively.

My training is focussed around your specific needs as an individual. Together, we’ll work at a pace that feels right for you, ensuring you gain the confidence and skills you need.

Things you could learn include:

  • The very basics - finding your way around the computer and using the keyboard
  • Writing and sending emails
  • Using the internet for shopping online, making doctor's appointments, banking, paying bills, booking hotels or travel, and much more
  • Creating documents (such as letters, invitations, or creative writing)
  • Storing, organising and printing your pictures and documents
  • Anything else, just ask!

You can mix and match any topic to suit your specific needs.

All services are completely flexible. Your session time can be used for whatever you want and need.

Frequently asked questions

Does it matter what computer or phone I have?

Not at all!  I can work with any make of phone, tablet or computer, including Windows, Android and Apple devices.

How long are the sessions?

For personal home computer training, I would recommend no longer than a two hour session. One hour sessions are available in Thanet and Sandwich.  You can book more sessions as and when you need them.

If you would like to learn something more work-related, like Microsoft Excel or PowerPoint, sessions can be longer. See the 'Training for Work' page for more details.

Do I need to sign up for a number of sessions?

No. There is no commitment. If you only need one session for something specific, that's fine.  If you need more, or would like regular help, that's perfectly fine too!

Do you fix computers?

No. I am more like your 'driving instructor' than a mechanic. If your computer or phone has technical issues, I would recommend getting in touch with your local computer or phone repair shop.

How much does a session cost?

Prices start from £25 for a one hour session. For full details, please see the 'Prices' page.

Can I pay by card?

Yes, payment is accepted by cash, card or bank transfer. Payment must be made on or before the day of appointment.

I am an older person. Can you teach me?

Of course. In fact, most of my computer tuition clients are retired. My oldest customer was 92! Sessions are relaxed and we'll go at your pace and go over things as many times as we need to. We can jot down notes as we go along if needed.

Do I need a Broadband service?

Ideally, yes.  There are a few things we can do without Broadband (such as type letters or make phone calls), but most things require a Broadband service these days.

I don't have space at my home. Can I come to you?

Unfortunately not - I don't have a training room or office. However, I can arrange to meet you somewhere suitable, eg. at a local hotel or coffee shop, if you can bring your phone or laptop along with you.
